How Your License Works

Katami is sold the way software used to be: you pay once, and it is yours. No subscription, and nothing that stops working because a year went by. This page explains the model in plain words; the EULA is the binding version.

What you get

One license gives you:

• Katami, on two Macs you use;
• 12 months of every update: every release we publish in the 12 months after you buy, new features included, not only fixes;
• forever. The app does not expire, and nothing renews by itself.

After the 12 months

• Katami keeps working, exactly as it did. Nothing is taken away or switched off.
• Every version released within your 12 months stays yours, forever. We simply stop offering you newer ones.
• Updating is optional. Another 12 months of updates is $39, whenever you like. If your 12 months have already ended when you renew, the new 12 months start on the day you renew. You can do this as many times as you want, or never.

If we gave you your license

A complimentary license, one we gave you rather than one you bought, never runs out of updates. It includes every release, always.

If you bought before this model

Nothing changes for you. A license bought before we moved to a year of updates keeps every Katami 1 release (every version numbered 1.x), under the terms you bought it under. Nothing new is asked of you.

New versions of macOS

Katami requires macOS 26. We test each release against the macOS versions available when it ships. We cannot promise that an old release keeps working with a macOS version Apple releases years later — no one who makes Mac software can — but while your updates run, the releases that keep Katami working on new macOS versions are part of what you bought.

Your two Macs

Sign in on a Mac and it is linked. To move your license to a different Mac, unlink one in the License Manager and sign in on the new one. There is no limit on how often you can move it.

A license belongs to one person, on Macs they use — a desktop and a laptop, say. If several people at a business use Katami, each needs a license.

Offline

Katami checks your license when it can reach us, about once a day. It never locks because it could not. Work on a plane, on location or with Wi-Fi off for as long as you like. It stops only if our service tells it the license was refunded or revoked, or that this Mac was unlinked.

Is this a subscription?

No. Nothing renews by itself, and there is nothing to cancel. Another year of updates is a single payment you choose to make, and we will never take away a version you already have.

If Bespoke Byte stops

We intend to make Katami for a long time. But a perpetual license should outlive the company that sold it, so: if we ever shut down the licensing service, we will first release a final update of Katami that runs without it, so the version you own keeps working without us.

Refunds

If Katami is not for you, you have 14 days to ask for your money back, no reason needed. The same 14 days apply to a year of updates you renew. See the Refund Policy.

Beta versions

We sometimes offer beta versions to license holders who ask. Betas are included with your license and run alongside Katami, on the same two Macs. They are unfinished by design — keep a backup, and expect things to change.
